The Lewis P. Jones South Carolina Pictorial History Collection

 

Dr. Lewis P. Jones’ contributions to South Carolina history extend well beyond the books and articles he wrote and the classes he taught.  As part of his role as teacher and scholar, he maintained a collection of slides of important South Carolina sites.  During his January 1968 and 1970 Interims, Jones took students throughout South Carolina, where he photographed many of the state’s historic places. 

The collection contains almost two thousand photographs taken between 1946 and 1987. It includes photographs of churches and homes from all over the state, many chosen for their historical or architectural significance.

The Jones Slide Collection is stored in and searchable using the Wofford College library catalog. However, since Dr. Jones arranged the collection by county, you might enjoy browsing the slides that way. Here are links to the complete list of photos by the county where they were taken:
